We go through another developmental milestone, that is witnessing the new members of the executive committee (Exco) roles committing themselves to be part of the committee to plan and execute events to engage youths. Mr Martin Tang, Youth Director of Blossom World Society has prepared a 2D1N camp to share his knowledge on event management and to foster team bonding with our new exco members.

The concepts I have learnt can be applied to all the projects I take part in school and in the future, I will be able to organise events that are beneficial to everyone.

Understanding our personality traits and that of other team members enables us to thrive with different group dynamics as we are equipped with the know-how to deal with people from diverse backgrounds.

Theory on event planning

It’s dinner time! We were tasked to cook dinner with our assigned teammates. It was definitely not an easy task to cook dinner to feed all our teammates with difference preference. Especially with the weird combination of food ingredients in our fridge, limited equipment at the same time to present our final products to a team of panelists, all in such a short time! But we DID it with everyone's creativity as a team!

Panelists to make their judgement before we can have our dinner.

Treasure Hunting! before bedtime.

Assigning of responsibilities and duties of each individual role in the egg formation. We then proceed to discuss and brainstorm on the possible activities in accordance to our chosen roles. Two groups are formed, with one focusing on events for students and the other on events for working adults.

Lunch, another challenging mealtime activity to get lunch within a given budget with the new teammates in the egg formation.

Before we wrap up the camp, it is presentation time by the two groups on the events which they proposed to run in the second half of 2017 and early 2018 to the BWS board members, in the process, applying what they have learnt throughout the 2D1N camp on event management and planning

The course has taught us the roles and their responsibilities, along with explaining exemplary cases and what should we do in those situations which was an eye opener. It also bonded us and a team and all of us understood the different personalities that team members might have.

If you have the passion to lead, serve and contribute back to society through voluntary work and would like to further develop yourself in this aspect, we have a Blossom Youth Development Path designed specially for you (Age 13 - 35), click now to find out more.
