In this month's #PeopleofBWS, we are proud to introduce the excos of Project M.E.R.C.Y! Today, let's hear from Coco on the motives and aspirations in embarking on this initiative:
"I decided to join the project as I wanted to experience organising long-term events while giving back to the society. I also intended to build on my teamwork and communication skills, and have some fun outside of my own academics responsibilities! Through project M.E.R.C.Y, I hope to inspire more people to stay on and continue to cooperate with one another to form a better and gracious society"

“It's my 2nd time volunteering in this goodie distribution event and it’s still meaningful and fun! Although we paired up with other volunteers, everyone was so nice and I really enjoyed my time.”
“While we were delivering to one of the homes, the beneficiary looked really happy and seemed to be almost close to tears. She continually thanked us for the help. . It really warmed my heart because although I was only delivering the goodie bags, the efforts of other volunteers who helped to gather and pack the items for the goodie bags did not go in vain as the beneficiaries really appreciate our kind help. I’m glad that I was able to be part of this meaningful distribution during this pandemic!”
Thank you Yi Xue @yixueee__and Priya @priii.yaaa for sharing with us your experience from Fudai Distribution! It is really warming to hear the fruitful experiences that y'all had through interacting with your teammates and beneficiaries. For other volunteers, feel free to send us your volunteering experiences with us so that we can spread the positivity within our community :)

Small actions, big impacts.
Last Saturday, 18 volunteers participated in our second goodie bag distribution of the year. It is heartening to see these volunteers waking up early and travelling from different parts of Singapore to distribute food rations to low-income families in Woodlands. Although it may be a small act of kindness, it can mean very differently to our beneficiaries.

Blossom World wishes everyone a Happy Chinese New Year! 新年快乐 吉祥如意! 🍊🍊While it is good time to spend time with our loved ones, don’t forget to mask on and stay safe!
Happy Lunar New Year from Blossom World Society! 🧧 May the year of the Ox brings you good health , happiness, success and prosperity!
It is a great start for us this year as we ushered in the Lunar New Year with several youth initiatives such as Project M.E.R.C.Y and Goodie Bag distribution to the underprivileged. Blossom Oasis of Kindness and Home Refresh were launched to raise funds for these events to help defray the expenses and to clean a house paint a smile for the underprivileged. More youth volunteers initiatives awaits you to join us in bringing warmth and hope to the community.
Here is our New Year Greetings from our youth staff and volunteers 😊
Last Sunday, our volunteers came over to our centre for a meaningful cause: we had delivered Chinese New Year goodie bags (Fudai) to our beneficiaries around the island for the fifth time! For our non-Chinese beneficiaries, we have prepared back-to-school items for their children.
Kudos to our volunteers who have worked tirelessly to distribute these goodie bags to 70 households within 5 hours! Here are some photos of our volunteers-in-action during the distribution
Our next food ration distribution will be on 6 March, Saturday. Do visit our link in bio to join us for our Oasis of Kindness next month!
The long awaited Project M.E.R.C.Y. has finally debuted on 16 Jan this year!
Project M.E.R.C.Y., known as Monthly Experience in Reaching out to Communities through Youths, is a monthly engagement programme that aims to provide a platform for the passionate and committed youths to care bringing joy and energy to our beneficiaries regularly.
On our first session, our team has prepared activities such as virtual singing sessions and bingo for seniors from Care Community Services @carefe_express. Although the seniors were a bit shy initially, they were more engaged after warming up with our volunteers. We hope to strengthen our rapport with them in the subsequent sessions.
We will be introducing our volunteers in the upcoming posts, do stay tuned to it!
How do you usually spend your Saturday weekend?
Last Saturday, 6 secondary school students had a different weekend as they visited our centre and helped us with goodie bag packing. During that 3 hours, the volunteers were cracking their heads on how to allocate the snacks and condiments based on the needs of different households systematically. Their help has greatly enabled us to provide relevant assistance to our beneficiaries to tide through this tough period.

Although the digital literacy sessions have ended, the experience still has a lasting impact on our volunteers. Let’s hear what they have to say:
“Overall, this experience was rewarding as it gave me the chance to apply and share my knowledge in IT with others, hopefully making small but impactful improvements to everyday life for the seniors that participated in the workshop.”
“Before we started on this project, I remember I wanted to learn more about the lifestyles of the elderly and how technology can help them improve their quality of living”
“This community service also taught me to be more patient with my parents. I find myself being impatient with them when they ask me about certain functions on their smartphone. When being asked the same questions repeatedly, I often end up complaining. I really feel extremely guilty when I do that. I think I can understand their pains and struggles better now.”
“The four sessions are not only the process of auntie getting to know her phone better, but also the process of us getting to know elderly better. ”

It's a joyous wrap-up for the Digital Literacy Session with the seniors on 6 January 2021! Kudos to our youth volunteers from NUS in initiating the session!
We are glad that the seniors from @blossomseedsg have benefited so much from the past 4 sessions! The seniors have learnt more about WhatsApp features, taking photos with their handphones, attending Zoom meetings and even watching YouTube videos on their own!
One takeaway from the volunteers would be reciprocity. When teaching the seniors, they learned about being patient and tailoring to the needs of different seniors. The youths and seniors have also gained rapport through these sessions - the youths are able to gain a sense of accomplishment when seeing the seniors’ progress. This volunteering experience has given them the confidence to interact with their grandparents at home!
To promote youth volunteerism, we hope to have more opportunities to collaborate with Blossom Seeds in the year ahead!
"I'm very grateful to the boys who come and help us. They are wonderful because they are willing to spend their time on their weekends instead of lazing on bed or chit chatting with friends. They are willing to spend their time to come and help and paint my house. It was a very noble task I would say. They are very wonderful, and that is how I feel..." - Message from Ms Sally, a strong warrior battling with cancer.

The spark of joy revealed in the face of Aunty J after the removal of the clutters that had been piling up in her house. Her living condition is now more spacious and given a fresh breath of life.
Thank you Blossom Youth for helping to refresh the house and not backing off from the strong odour and prevailing pests.
You have cleaned a house, painted a smile!

Before the wrapping up of year 2020, the best offer in life happened on 12.12, not the 12.12 Sale but 12.12 Blossom Home Refresh. A memorable experience in attending to someone's needs.

"I was reminded of how generous and how caring our neightbours are during COVID-19. My neighbours would inform each other about the collection of masks and how each other are during hard times. Some households are also thoughtful and would place a big bottle of hand sanitizer in the lifts for the neighbours to share. All these small acts of kindness motivate each other to stay strong and inspire me to spread the kindness."
