Save Earth Save Lives Save Ourselves
Have you been following us on BWS Facebook page? If you’d visited us at our "Save Earth, Save Live, Save Ourselves" interactive exhibition on 13 November, Monday at One Raffles Place, you would have noticed a fish tank which was filled with litters picked by our project team members within a short time period of 1 to 2 hours at Kallang Basin. The most commonly found items are those that are not stranger to us in our daily lives: plastic bags, straws, plastic bottles.
According to NEA waste statistics and overall recycling figures in 2016, only a mere 7% of plastic waste disposed in 2016 was recycled? The remaining 93%, measuring up to 703,200 tonnes of waste were incinerated or landfilled. This is doing a lot of damage to our environment and our health.
Our aim on Save Earth, Save Live, Save Ourselves project is to raise awareness on the adverse effects of plastic waste and promoting kindness to the environment. Our environment needs our help to kickstart its healing process. Join us in this initiative to reduce plastic waste in your daily lives! Participate in our Task Card and stand a chance to be rewarded with amazing prizes.
"Save Earth, Save Live, Save Ourselves" exhibition will not be successful without the presence and support of everyone! We also wish to express our sincere gratitude to our community partners: National Youth Council, Young ChangeMakers, Sustainable Singapore, Singapore Kindness Movements for contributing in one way or another in supporting our Save Earth, Save Lives, Save Ourselves project - Interactive Exhibition and the Coastal Cleanup project on 18 November 2017.
Thank you Blossom Youth Exco for initiating this project. We end this post with a shoutout to her team from a project team member Guo Ying:

Appreciate your effort and heart to contribute to the project. Even though you mentioned that it is your first time getting involved in such projects, I felt that you did extremely well!! Thank you for making sure that everything runs smoothly during the exhibition by doing your part and also asking your friend for help with our posters and banner.
Huifen (BWS Youth Programme In charge):
Your enthusiasm in this group chat and the help you rendered by keeping a lookout for options for the project is so valuable to us! Thank you for coming down all the way to support our exhibition on your off day and also for your yummy cupcakes!
Patricia (Staff of BWS) :
The unsung hero helping us in all our marketing work for this event! Thank you so much!
Martin (Youth Director of BWS):
Last but not least, everything would not have happened if Martin had not initiated the Egg Project and roped all of us in. According to an analogy, many straws are needed as a cushion to prevent the egg from cracking when it is thrown from a certain height. Thank you for the support and guidance to keep our ‘egg’ intact until its point of maturity. Projects bring about its own set of challenges, but what is more valuable is that during the process, it make us more aware and deepens our understanding of everyone of us. Words can’t express how grateful we are for your help and guidance as we progress in our project.
People possess different perspectives and thus, compromise doesn't come easy in this regard. Respect and trust in one another is needed despite disagreement in viewpoints, and identifying and acknowledging the value that others bring to the table is important to create synergy in a team. Observing and Appreciating allows individuals to embrace differences between one another and leverage on them to create a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts to accomplish wonders.
Do stay tuned for our updates and we look forward to having YOUths who have the passion to lead, serve and contribute back to society through voluntary work to join us in our upcoming events.
