Blossom Children visit to Thian Leng Old Folks Home
On 12 October, Blossom Children who are attending our weekly moral education programmes went for an excursion with their parents to Thian Leng Old Folks Home as part of their learning curriculum. They recited Chapter 1 of Di Zi Gui (弟子规), Respecting and Loving Our Parents at Home (入则孝), and sang a song for the old folks. They also served the old folks refreshment brought by their parents. Some refreshments were home-made or prepared by parents themselves. To spend more time with the old folks, they made a handicraft together with them.
The excursion provided our children with the golden opportunity to apply what they had learnt in class while parents be their role models in helping the development of right values. Chapter 5 of Di Zi Gui, Loving All Beings (泛爱众), teaches us to love all being for we all live under the same sky and are supported by the same earth. Together, teachers, parents and children got to play their parts in building a kind and gracious society.
In Thian Leng Old Folks Home, there are about 50 elderly residents housed in a 4-storey space. Most of them are unable to care for themselves and they need the assistance of nurses to feed and bathe them. There are also residents who suffer from dementia. For those who are in better physical and mental condition, they will participate in any available activities in their wheelchairs. As the old folks are entering their twilight years after a lifetime of hard work in building up our society, we should treat them with love and respect to brighten up their lives.
At Blossom World, we believe in a world where young people with the right values and attitude can contribute positively to society and make a difference to the world.
Moral education programmes conducted by Joyous Learning Grove, the children moral education arm of Blossom World, consist of Di Zi Gui, Happy Formula and Discovering Treasure Through Stories.
