The Need to Keep our Environment Clean
Participating in the beach-cleaning event which started as a way for me to fill an uneventful Tuesday afternoon turned out to be more fulfilling than expected. We know that humans are the greatest perpetrators of pollution yet we have become so desensitized to our impact on the environment. Though environmental disasters such as the burning of the Amazon Rainforest or the record levels of CO2 emissions released into the air are broadcasted to millions everyday, yet how often does that translate into tangible action on our part? In fact, only after I bore witness to the endless stream of styrofoam balls and colored plastics strewn across the shores did I realize the magnitude of efforts needed to reverse the negative effects of pollution. It is hard to believe that tiny pieces of rubbish can negatively compromise the environmental biodiversity, and that disposing of them would require a massive undertaking. I believe that so long as people are willing to exert a bit more effort to dispose of the rubbish around their surroundings, it would be a huge boon for the stability of our environment.
Online influencers such as Mr Beast and Mark Robers who have organized environmental campaigns have inspired my younger sibling and I to remain hopeful that the present and future generations will become more conscious and active in the rejuvenation of our environment. Hence, I am thankful for the guidance for the newer generation, leading them to a better future.
Meanwhile, I’ll try my best to play my part, sorting and recycling where I can, and being more conscious of my everyday decisions which may have an impact on our environment.
